Lil’ Treasures Child Care seeks to become the standard for child care in Southern Indiana. Our motto of “Lower Ratios = Higher Education” is the cornerstone on which we build the curriculum to help children develop during their most foundational season of growth.
Here at Lil' Treasures Child Care & Preschool we develop curriculum through a consolidation of outside resources and teacher innovation to create a balanced approach to ensure the foundations of science, social studies, creative arts, physical health and growth, language arts, mathematics, social emotional skills, and approaches to play & learning are met with appropriate levels of both information and fun.
Lil’ Treasures Child Care opened, in the summer of 2006, as an alternative to local childcare available to the parents of Scott County.
Magali moved to Scott County after her husband retired from the Air Force. She was offered teaching positions, in childcare, from Scott County to the Louisville metropolitan area.
As she visited many facilities, she saw that the focus of the organizations seemed lacking; too many children, too few caregivers, unsafe conditions, and unhealthy environments.
Magali already had experience with homecare, private day cares, franchises, and government operations.
When her husband was stationed in Maryland, from 1997-2001, she cared for nine children in their home. Her reputation grew quickly and she was soon having to turn families away due to a lack of space.
She moved, with her husband, to New Jersey, in 2001 and started working in a franchised daycare. The ratio was much higher than what she believed was best for the children.
That prompted her to accept a teaching position at a privately owned early learning center where she remained for nearly three years. There the ratio was usually 8:1 with minor fluctuations that were manageable. Learning was a focus there, until the center was sold to a couple who determined that more money could be made at higher ratios. Soon the classrooms were not only reaching unmanageable levels, but also exceeding fire code. Magali protested and eventually went back to opening her licensed child care home again.
These experiences solidified her concept that lower ratios promote higher learning, a loving environment, and a safer, healthier environment for everyone.
